Gary T. Holley - President

  
Gary T. Holley has been in the contract drilling industry for 43 years since graduating from Baylor University in 1973. He started his career at Parker Drilling Company, Tulsa, Oklahoma, until 1993 at which time he was Vice President-USA Operations responsible for over 100 drilling rigs located in the lower 48, Alaska and Hawaii.

From Parker Drilling Company, Mr. Holley moved to Quarles Drilling Corporation as a Vice President. In 1996 Quarles Drilling Corporation was purchased by UTI Energy and the Quarles name was changed to Cougar Drilling Company. In 1997 Mr. Holley was promoted to President and COO of Cougar Drilling Company. He was recruited by Nabors Drilling U.S. (NDUSA) in 1999 to manage their Mid Continent area of operations. He was in Oklahoma City until 2004 as the NDUSA Mid-Continent District Manager. Nabors’ Mid-Continent District was NDUSA’s largest and most profitable area of operations.

In the summer of 2004 Mr. Holley moved to Snyder, Texas, where he worked directly for Glenn Patterson, President and COO of Patterson-UTI Drilling Company as a Co- Operations Manager. Mr. Holley was responsible for daily operation of over 300 rigs working in the lower 48-USA. Upon Glenn Patterson’s retirement, Mr. Holley moved to Oklahoma City and in October 2008 was named Senior Vice President of Drilling Operations for NOMAC Drilling. In January 2009, Mr. Holley was promoted to President of NOMAC Drilling Company responsible for operating over 100 rigs for Chesapeake Energy.

In July 2009 Mr. Holley left NOMAC and was named President and CEO of Canyon Drilling Company. While at Canyon Drilling Company, under Mr. Holley’s leadership, Canyon was rated in the top 10 of US Drillers for footage drilled. From 2011, until their acquisition in 2014, the company was also ranked by the IADC as having one of the lowest Incident Rates of any contract driller in the Permian Basin. Mr. Holley was named President and Chief Executive Officer of Canyon Drilling East Africa Ltd. as well as the holding company East African Drilling Ltd. and remained active in both roles until September 2015. Currently, Mr. Holley is in the role of President for RFC Drilling, LLC, based out of Odessa, Texas.​​

Jeremy Counahan - V.P. of Drilling Operations

Jeremy Counahan started his career in the oil and gas industry with FWA Drilling in 1987. He stayed with them until the company was acquired by UTI in 1996. From UTI he went to Nabors Drilling and advanced through the ranks. He was promoted to driller in 2001 and stayed until 2005. 

Leaving Nabors, Jeremy worked briefly with Bronco Drilling Company from 2005 to 2006. He left Bronco and was hired on with Ultimate Drilling Company out of OKC, OK and stayed with them as a Tool Pusher until the company was dissolved in 2009.

Jeremy came on board with Canyon Drilling at its inception in 2010 as a Tool Pusher and was promoted to Rig Superintendent in 2012. During his position as Rig Superintendent the company drilled in excess of 1,800,000’ of hole with no environmental incidents and maintained an LTIR well below the IADC average. He stayed with Canyon Drilling Company until its purchase in 2014 by East African Drilling Ltd. He was then promoted to Manager-Drilling Operations and stayed with EADL through September 2015. Currently Mr. Counahan is the V.P. of Operations for RFC Drilling, LLC based out of Odessa, Texas.

Eric Dowden - GM

Mr. Dowden was hired on at Canyon Drilling Company in 2010 at an entry level floor hand position.  Over the years with Canyon Drilling, Mr. Dowden worked up from the floor hand position to motorman and then derrick man. After receiving several IADC HSE certifications Mr. Dowden was promoted to HSE Manager for the company.

Mr. Dowden was instrumental in developing Canyon Drilling Company’s highly successful safety program which maintained a less than a 1.0 Incident Rate in 2013 and 2014. In 2014 upon Canyon Drilling’s purchase by East African Drilling Ltd, he was promoted to HSE Director-Drilling Operations. He stayed with EADL through September 2015. Currently Mr. Dowden is the Operations Manager for RFC Drilling, LLC based out of Odessa, Texas.  

Mike Lively - HSE Manager

Mr. Lively began his career as a valve technician at Wood Group Pressure Control in 2005. After transitioning into a Field Service Technician role, he continued progressing in the wellhead industry working with companies such as Superior Wellhead and Stream Flo. He eventually attained the Lead Service Technician designation and was responsible for the creation and implementation of Safety Committees at each company.

In 2011 Mr. Lively moved into the drilling industry as a Floorhand for Nabors Drilling. He was promoted to Motorhand, but quickly recruited to an HSE Instructor position in the Training Department for Nabors, where he worked until 2014 when he transitioned into a Field Safety position.

In 2015 he was recruited by Nabors Alaska to serve as a Rig HSE Manager/Field Trainer on the North Slope. He returned to Nabors Drilling in West TX, serving as both an HSE Instructor and a QHSE Specialist until accepting a position as the HSE Manager for Dynamic Energy Services. In 2018, Mr. Lively took over as the Regional HSE Coordinator for Capstar Drilling Inc. and continued his service with them until coming on board with RFC in February 2019.

Mr. Lively holds numerous OSHA and Safety industry certifications, and received his Associates Degree in Occupational Safety and Health from Columbia Southern University.
